“Analysts have been upgrading the company pre-earnings, with Barclays analyst Raimo Lenschow predicting gaming as being a significant earnings driver due to Microsoft’s Netflix for Games subscription push and set a price target of $100 per share.”
Microsoft gaming business to drive growth
In a note to investors this week, Barclays analyst Raimo Lenschow focused on the Microsoft gaming business as a key driver for the company over the next year. He also boosted his price target for Microsoft stock to $100 per share and maintained his Overweight rating.
He noted that momentum in the Xbox One X will drive excitement around the Microsoft gaming business for now, but he’s looking beyond the Xbox cycle for what’s next. He sees the Microsoft gaming business moving away from a console cycle which revolves around hardware toward a subscription-based model that hinges on software. He explained that this type of business model should drive improved growth in revenues, is more predictable, and bears higher margins.
He pointed out that the Microsoft gaming business is currently “hidden” in the company’s More Personal Computing division, which he feels keeps investors from giving it much attention because of how dominant the Windows franchise is. However, he expects this to change because of the $9 billion run rate and cloud transition that’s going on.
Microsoft gaming business to follow Office 365 model
The Barclays analyst used the transition for Office to a subscription model via Office 365. He sees a similar shift for the Microsoft gaming division through Xbox Live subscriptions. At this point, the company has about 53 million active users on the subscription service, and he said that the growth rate has been “outstripping the industry” with a 21% compound annual growth rate in the last three years.
He also pointed out that Microsoft has been pushing further into the PC gaming market, which has a $35 billion total addressable market, making it much bigger than the console market at $25 billion to $30 billion. Further, he explained that the PC gaming market is less hardware-focused than the console market.

Insgesamt bin ich froh, dass MS seit 2014 immer wieder versucht, die XBox One attraktiver zu machen.
Ich bin kein FanBoy von irgendwelchen Herstellern. In der vorletzten Generation fand ich die XBox 360 besser als die PS3. In der aktuellen Generation finde ich die PS4 besser als die XBox One.
Ich bin einfach mal gespannt, wie sich das ganze 2018 entwickeln wird. Welche Konsole ich mir als nächstes kaufe, steht noch überhaupt nicht fest. Während MS und Nintendo gerade viel neues bringen, ist es um Sony etwas ruhig geworden seit VR. Mal schauen, wie es weitergehen wird …
Die E3 2018 könnten wieder enorm spannend werden. MS bräuchte “mehr exklusive Games für den GamePass”, Nintendo muss weiterhin viele Kracher für die Switch raushauen und Sony darf auch nicht nachlassen, wenn sie weiterhin der Marktführer sein wollen.
Ich kenne nur sehr wenige Menschen mit einer Alexa zu Hause. Und dass ausgerechnet die sich über die Überwachung bei Kinect aufgeregt haben wage ich zu bezweifeln.
Wie gesagt, diesen Vergleich im Sinne von “damals bei MS regten sich alle auf und jetzt mit Alexa nicht mehr” ist eh nicht passend und verzerrt die Geschehnisse der Vergangenheit.
Sollte MS “EA” kaufen, würde wohl der ganze “EA Access” zum “MS Gamepass” wandern. Und Fifa gäbe es wahrscheinlich nur noch exklusiv für XBox One und PC …
Aber ist EA nicht mehr wert als “150 Millionen Dollar”???

Also auf der MS Website ist es ja schon so angegeben. Mit Gamepass kriegt man das Spiel 8 Euro günstiger. Wie diese Rabatte via Gold bzw. Plus… Dann wäre auch die Aufruhr von Gameware unnötig gewesen.
